United Methodist Church
“God is light; In him there is no darkness...”
[1 John 1:5]
Bethel United Methodist Church seeks to know love and serve God and neighbor.
We shine brightly in the downtown area of Rock Hill, South Carolina as we offer a safe place for homeless men in our community year-round, have a community soup kitchen every Thursday in January, February and March and as we worship God weekly on Sundays at 11:15!
All Are Welcome, so come and join us as we make disciples of Jesus Christ and transform the world!

COVID-19 Protocols for In-Person Worship Services
The Bethel UMC COVID-19 Task Force has created a plan for our church to return to in-person worship which includes the following:
Masks are required for all attending worship. (We will have masks available for those who need them at the door)
Hand Sanitizer will be made available to all entering and exiting the sanctuary.
All surfaces will be wiped down between each service.
To prevent the spread of the virus, all Bibles, hymnals and writing materials have been removed from the pews. We encourage you to bring a Bible, or to use a Bible app on your phone during the service. We will have a screen at the front of the sanctuary to guide us in worship.
Each week an electronic bulletin will be emailed to the congregation as well as posted on the church website for the use of those worshiping in-person or online. No paper bulletins will be made available to eliminate contact between individuals.
Doors for the church will open at 10:45am each Sunday morning. Everyone should enter the sanctuary doors at the top of the stairs. The elevator will be available.
Worship will begin each Sunday morning around 11:15 after everyone is seated and Rev. Sutton has arrived.
The congregation will be seated from the front to the back of the sanctuary based on the number of persons in the family group. We encourage you to sit with those you have quarantined with at home.
We have created a diagram to explain available seating on the next page. Larger family groups will be seated on the back rows and in the choir loft. For those persons who have assistive devices (walkers and wheelchairs) we have reserved seating on the front right pew. For those persons who come alone and can climb stairs, we invite you to be seated in the balcony. An usher will help you find a seat. The pews and balcony seats have been marked with tape or roped off to maintain social distancing measures (6 feet).
The congregation will exit one row at a time at the end of the service as directed by the usher from the back to the front.
The order of worship will be different as it has been recommended that congregational and choral singing be avoided during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have pre-recorded music to be played during the service. In addition, Dena Wade, our pianist, will play prior to worship and after the worship service.
The traditional offering time will be removed from the order of worship, but we encourage folks to place their tithes and offerings in the box in the vestibule as you enter or as you leave worship.
Lastly, we ask that folks keep social distancing measures within the sanctuary and the parking lot. Please remain at least 6 feet from those not in your family group/quarantine group. If possible, remain seated and refrain from moving about the sanctuary once you enter.
Bathrooms and cleaning supplies will be available for those who utilize the restrooms to sanitize after use.
Other Church Events
Sunday School, Children’s Church, the Nursery and all other in-person events will be postponed until further notice. We will address the commencement of in-person gatherings other than worship later this summer
Funeral services will not take place in the Bethel UMC sanctuary until further notice. Instead, graveside services will be recommended. In addition, families will be served a meal catered rather than a meal provided by the congregation members. This will limit exposure to the family and church members. If members of the church would like to provide a meal or food for a grieving family on their own, that is appropriate but as a church we will offer the family a catered meal.
